The Liberian National Police on Friday 7 May graduated 47 officers, including one woman, of “Class Five” - the last graduates under the current Emergency Response Unit Development Programme. The new graduates will bring the total strength of the ERU to 344 officers, including four females. UNMIL Deputy Special Representative for Rule of Law, Ms. Henrietta Mensa-Bonsu, in her remarks at the event, highlighted the operational dilemma faced by the LNP and said, “While they are steadfastly improving in the quality of police service delivered; they are increasingly challenged by the imbalance between operational demands and available budgetary allocations.” She encouraged the Government of Liberia to “do its utmost to provide the LNP, and the security sector, with the means to be operationally effective.”
